About Catharine
I know what it feels like when the life that used to fit doesn't anymore.
I've reinvented myself more than once. Not because I had some grand plan to keep starting over, but because I've learned that there are times in life when the person you've become simply can't keep living according to decisions made by an earlier version of you.
Sometimes you know exactly what needs to change. Sometimes you only know that something does.
I've spent much of my adult life in that territory, both personally and professionally. I've been a teacher, a costume designer, a singer, a community organizer, an entrepreneur, an intuitive, a writer, an author, a speaker and an advisor. I've built work around things that didn't come with obvious job descriptions. I've left behind identities that once fit me beautifully. I've started again without knowing exactly where I would land.
And somewhere along the way, I became very good at recognizing thresholds. Not just my own. Other people's too.
My career was never going to fit neatly into a box.
I began with a degree in English Literature, Art History and Education from Queen's University, followed by several years teaching English in Montreal and graduate studies in Community Economic Development at Concordia University. Then, in 1997, I became self-employed.
What followed was not a conventional career trajectory. For nearly thirty years, I've worked with people one-to-one, taught classes and workshops, developed my intuitive practice, written and spoken about intuition and consciousness, and eventually became the author of four books.
My work has changed because I've changed.
There have been periods when I've had to admit that something I was very good at was no longer something I wanted to build my life around. Other times, I've felt the pull toward something new long before I knew what to call it. I've learned that this is often what reinvention actually looks like.
It isn't always a dramatic leap followed by immediate clarity. Sometimes it's an uncomfortable realization: I can't keep doing this the way I've been doing it.
And then comes the interesting part.
